Below are 5 of my favorite destinations that offer plenty of paranormal fun for a unique and haunting (in a good way) spring break.

CANCUN

Cancun, a bustling coastal city in Mexico, is renowned for its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and ancient Mayan ruins. However, beyond its vibrant façade lies a chilling underbelly of haunted tales and ghostly encounters.

1. El Rey Ruins:
Located in the middle of the hotel zone of Cancun, these ancient El Rey Mayan ruins are reported to be haunted by the spirits of the Mayan ancestors including Mayan warriors. Some visitors have allegedly heard voices, were touched by an unseen entity, felt as if they were being watched, and also feeling ill at ease.
2. The Coba Ruins:
The Coba Ruins are not in Cancun but are close enough for a visit when you are in the area. Notorious for their spectral residents, it is not uncommon to hear reports of seeing shadows and dark figures among the ancient structures. You might also hear reports of the inexplicable feelings sadness, fear, and dread.
3. The Old Town of El Centro:
When most people think of Cancun, they probably picture beautiful waterfront resorts and bustling tourist areas. What they might not know is that there is more to Cancun such as the old town of El Centro. You just might hear a story or two about ghostly sightings, specifically the spirit of a woman in white who wanders the dark, narrow streets at night. Some see her wandering silently while others hear her wailing through the deserted streets and alleyways. Why is she wailing? No one really knows why…..

For curious travelers seeking more than sun and sand, Cancun's haunted hotspots offer a spine-tingling journey into the realm of the paranormal. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the stories that permeate these ancient sites add an extra layer of intrigue to this already enchanting destination.

MIAMI

Despite its reputation as a white sand and sun-soaked paradise, Miami hides a dark history that includes rumors and stories of swirling of encounters with the paranormal. Magic City isn’t all sand, sun, and sparkle.

1. The Biltmore Hotel:
Nestled in the heart of Coral Gables, this swanky hotel boasts both a lavish and haunted past. Staff and guests have both reported a variety of paranormal experiences: light anomalies, shadows, disembodied voices, and footsteps throughout the hotel. One prominent story is that the spirit of Thomas "Fatty" Walsh, a mobster killed on the premises in a gambling dispute, silently wanders the halls.
2. The Deering Estate:
This scenic estate, overlooking the stunning waters of Biscayne Bay, holds a sinister secret. Once home to the illustrious Deering family, visitors report encounters with spirits, including Charles Deering himself. During your visit, you might experience doors opening and closing on their own, disembodied voices and laughter, shadows, and footsteps.
3. The Tower Theater:
Located in Little Havana, this nearly 100-year old historic cinema has multiple reports of shadows and full body apparitions, voices, phantom footsteps, and doors that open and close on their own. Some believe that one of the spirits that remain is a former projectionist has chosen to remain instead of moving on. The spirits of a man and a woman in ‘20 garb have also been a common report.
